Sitting on the edge of Queensland’s Golden Employment Triangle (Brisbane’s CBD, Airport precinct and Port of Brisbane), Nundah is a suburb that caters for top investors, families and people on the move.
Prior to European settlement, Nundah was inhabited by Aboriginal people from the Turrbul tribe. It was first settled by Europeans in the mid-19th century, although the suburb remained primarily a rural area until it was connected to Brisbane via railway in the 1880s.
The name “Nundah” means “chain of water holes” in the local Aboriginal dialect. This name is probably a reference to the nearby natural water sources at Kedron Brook and the marshy areas formerly to the east of the suburb.
Originally considered a working-class suburb, the area has become transformed in recent years, and today features a mix of traditional worker’s cottages and modern high-density apartment blocks.
Nundah straddles the suburbs of Northgate, Wavell Heights, Kedron and Clayfield and has a traditional “shopping strip” commercial district all centred mainly along the section of Sandgate Road that has been bypassed by the Nundah Bypass. There are plenty of cafes and specialty shops, as well as some medical facilities.
Woolworths anchor a small shopping centre which opened in mid-2007, containing over 200 parking spots, a Subway store, a Coffee Club, and numerous other small shops. Westfield’s Chermside Shopping Centre is less than a 5 minute drive from Nundah and offers 3000+ Brands and 1 million + products.
Sport is an integral part of the Nundah precinct and surrounding areas. There are two golf clubs, Virginia and Nudgee and the Royal Queensland Golf Club is a 15 minute drive. North’s Rugby League club and North Brisbane Rugby Club boast several Australian and Queensland players from past times.
For those of you looking for a relaxing game of Lawn Bowls, Ray White Nundah is the head sponsor of the Toombul Bowls Club, where Jim Murray and his team can coach you both in bowls and tasting a nice cold one at the bar after your game.
A ten minute drive to the International and Domestic airports and the same to the arterial roads make it easy to commute within Australian or Overseas and to the playgrounds of the Gold and Sunshine coasts.
